Land Acknowledgement

Takes a Village Society respectfully acknowledges that we work and gather on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), and Semiahma (Semiahmoo) First Nations.

We recognize and honour the enduring connection Indigenous Peoples have to these lands since time immemorial, and we are committed to learning, relationship-building, and supporting communities through respect, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

At TAVS, we believe it truly takes a village, and we strive to create spaces wheare children, families, and communities feel a strong sense of belonging, care, and connection.

Our Story

Takes a Village Society (TAVS) is a community-centre non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through inclusive, culturally responsive, and relationship-based services.

At TAVS, we believe strong communities are built when families feel connected, supported, and empowered. Our work is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and the understanding that every child and family deserves access to safe, nurturing, and equitable opportunities.

Our organization was created with the vision of building spaces where families can thrive emotionally, socially, culturally, and developmentally. Through meaningful partnerships and community engagement, we strive to provide programs and services that respond to the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

Takes a Village Society is currently preparing to launch our Early Learning Centre, a nurturing and inclusive space designed to support children during the most important years of their development. Guided by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework, our programs will focus on creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, confidence, creativity, and a strong sense of belonging. Through play-based and relationship-centred learning, children will be supported in developing the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and communication skills that help build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and a successful transition into kindergarten. Our goal is to create environments where every child feels safe, valued, capable, and inspired to explore the world around them.

As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: to strengthen community through care, connection, and collective support.

Early Learning Centre

Takes a Village Society Early Learning Centre is being thoughtfully created to provide high-quality childcare and early learning opportunities for children and families within our community. Rooted in our belief that strong communities begin with strong relationships, our centre will be a warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels a sense of belonging, safety, and care.

Our Early Learning Centre will offer programs for infants, toddlers, and preschool, designed to support the unique developmental needs of each child during their early years. Guided by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework, our approach recognizes children as capable, curious, and full of potential. Through play-based and relationship-centered learning experiences, children will be encouraged to explore, create, build confidence, and develop meaningful connections with others and the world around them.

At TAVS, we understand that early childhood is one of the most important stages of development. Our goal is not only to provide childcare, but to create enriching learning environments that support children socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and culturally. We are committed to helping children build the foundational skills needed for lifelong learning and a successful transition into kindergarten while fostering joy, curiosity, resilience, and independence along the way.

Our centre is being developed with families and community at the heart of everything we do. We believe parents and caregivers are a child’s first and most important teachers, and we value collaborative relationships that honour the strengths, cultures, identities, and lived experiences of every family. Through inclusive practices and culturally responsive care, we strive to create spaces where children and families feel seen, respected, and connected.

As a community-centered non-profit organization, Takes a Village Society is committed to reducing barriers and strengthening support systems for families. Our Early Learning Centre reflects our mission to build caring and connected communities through compassion, inclusion, equity, and meaningful relationships. We envision a space where children are empowered to learn and grow, families feel supported, and community is built through shared care and collective belonging.

Our Early Learning Centre is expected to open soon, and we are excited to welcome families into a space intentionally designed to nurture the growth, well-being, and potential of every child from the very beginning of their learning journey.

  • Our infant program provides a calm, nurturing, and responsive environment where babies are cared for with warmth, patience, and consistency. We focus on building secure relationships, supporting early sensory exploration, and following each child’s individual routines and needs. Families can feel confident knowing their child is in a safe, loving space where early attachment and trust are at the heart of care.

  • Our toddler program supports children as they begin to explore their independence, curiosity, and growing sense of self. Through play-based learning, we encourage language development, social interaction, movement, and emotional expression in a safe and supportive environment. Educators gently guide children as they build confidence, friendships, and foundational skills for early learning.

  • Our 3–5 program focuses on preparing children for kindergarten through meaningful, play-based learning experiences. Guided by the BC Early Learning Framework, children are supported in developing early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills. We foster curiosity, confidence, and collaboration, helping children feel capable, connected, and ready for their next stage of learning.
